This is in addition to all new examples of the fundamental ideas of small animal dermatology.

Moriello’s Small Animal Dermatology book has a comprehensive overview of canine and feline dermatology presented using a case-based approach. This approach is a guideline on how veterinarians face various situations randomly in actual practice.

The situations range in complexity from those encountered regularly to the most severe and challenging cases; answers cover all aspects of the illness or problem in question. Both candidates getting ready for exams and professionals continuing their education will find interest in this book.

Canine Infectious Diseases: Self-Assessment Color Review (Veterinary Self-Assessment Color Review Series) 1st edition

Publisher: CRC Press

Publication Date: March 14, 2018

Author/Editor: Katrin Hartmann, Jane Sykes

Print length: 272 pages

Language: English

Item weight: 15.2 ounces (431 grams)

Size: 5.8 x 0.5 x 8.2 inches (14.73 x 1.27 x 20.82 centimeters)

Availability: New, used

Format: Kindle, paperback

Book Overview

This book covers every sort of infectious disease affecting dogs, including those brought on by fungi, bacteria, viruses, and parasites. As is customary, it has a random presentation of over 200 clinical cases. These cases represent the whole spectrum of infectious disorders that can affect any of the organ systems in a dog.

The illustrated instances include integrated questions and thorough explanatory responses from worldwide experts. Although comprehensive, the answers are at the end of the book. For further study, a link to an internet source would be useful. However, because these study aids are a quick reference, additional internet content is irrelevant to them and might be more expensive.

The color images are a great addition that makes it easier to recognize common and uncommon disorder symptoms and makes studying more enjoyable. Each case is brief, making it possible to pick up the text and study it for short periods.

The manual contains more than 200 instances, covering every infectious disease that affects dogs. It also incorporates contributions from various cases. These cases accompany the self-assessment color review of feline infectious diseases well.

The case-based method enables each case’s specifics to have a step-by-step presentation, just like they might in actual practice. This allows veterinary professionals and students to think about the situation and test their expertise.

The cases in Canine Infectious Diseases offer numerous real-world examples that teach students about clinical history, physical examination, and gross pathology in detail. They also show students illustrations and descriptions of the pinnacle histopathology, which forms the basis of most second-year content.

The clinical cases described would also help in revising during the years of study; when learning general pathology, it is beneficial to relate the lecture theory content to clinical examples.

The authors describe this book primarily for working vets and students on fourth-year rotations. This book helps review second-year pathology and connect theory to clinical cases. It was also very easy to read.

The application of diagnostic results, particularly those from histology, facilitates comprehension and helps describe many important disorders in detail. Canine Infectious Diseases will likely be relevant throughout the veterinary program. The handbook’s size makes it convenient to bring with you to clinical placements.

The manual is expandable to include the complete spectrum of possible canine infections, which would aid in making it a respected resource for veterinarians in both practice and academic settings.

Any veterinary student interested in infectious diseases, those completing placements or revision, and recently graduated veterinary surgeons who might need to brush up on their expertise should consider reading the Canine Infectious Diseases book.

While there are increasingly more possibilities to review cases online, this book and the CRC Press Review Series still provide a reliable and practical study method.

Veterinary Dentistry: Self-Assessment Color Review, Second Edition (Veterinary Self-Assessment Color Review Series) 2nd edition

Publisher: CRC Press

Publication Date: November 13, 2015

Author/Editor: Frank Verstraete, Anson J. Tsugawa

Print length: 255 pages

Language: English

Item weight: 12.7 ounces (360 grams)

Size: 5.9 x 0.4 x 9 inches (15 x 1.01 x 22.86 centimeters)

Availability: New, used

Format: Kindle, paperback

Book Overview

This self-evaluation book aims to challenge the reader’s knowledge and encourage additional research on veterinary dentistry. It contains 228 clinical scenarios and accompanying questions designed to be both a challenge and a review.

Veterinary Dentistry: Self-Assessment Color Review book is neither a thorough textbook nor systemic or exhaustive. However, it is an intriguing approach to assess and broaden your knowledge base on animal dentistry when used with other reference materials.

This newly updated edition of a bestseller, written by acclaimed subject-matter experts, contains more than 50 additional cases in animal dentistry. The book is an excellent study aid for those getting ready for exams or professionals pursuing their education in veterinary studies.

The book has a layout of two to three clinical instances or questions on each page, with the answers on the opposite side. The questions are in random order and cover a wide range of subjects, including questions about embryogenesis and developmental abnormalities.

Other topics covered include:

  • Exotic and large animals
  • Basic endodontic procedures
  • Instruments and techniques
  • More advanced endodontic procedures

Additionally, it does a fantastic job of addressing everyday issues, including periodontal disease, resorptive lesions, and client-specific dental home care advice for animals.

The book’s abundance of illustrations is a huge plus and a great learning tool. It also includes a list of recommended readings to support further research in animal dentistry. It can be challenging to discover information because the cases are random.

However, there is a list of frequently asked questions regarding veterinary dentistry (both species-specific and topic-based) and an Index at the rear for quick reference.

This manual is suitable for general vet practitioners who have free time and want to brush up on their knowledge and identify areas where they are weak. It would also be especially helpful for dental students studying in this field. It would not be particularly helpful if you desired a thorough investigation into a certain problem or case and had one.

The illustrations and the book’s case-based methodology, which encourages critical thought and requires the reader to evaluate a case and develop a diagnosis, a course of treatment, etc., are its strong points. Comparing this approach to reading a thorough dentistry textbook is far more engaging.

Like oral ulcerations in a dog with systemic lupus erythematosus, the book features various instances of oral disease as a symptom of a systemic issue, which is interesting. There are several unusual cases reported, such as sialadenosis, about which we didn’t know anything before.

The emphasis on complex surgical and endodontic procedures that are impractical for a general veterinary practitioner, including root canal therapy, is a drawback. Using more room for topics like animal tooth extraction methods would have been beneficial.

Overall, the case-based method was an engaging way to convey a challenging subject. However, it constrains its usefulness as a thorough reference guide for routine usage in general practice.

Cattle and Sheep Medicine: Self-Assessment Color Review (Veterinary Self-Assessment Color Review Series) 2nd Edition

Publisher: CRC Press

Publication Date: June 1, 2016

Author/Editor: Philip R Scott

Print length: 344 pages

Item weight: 1.4 pounds (0.63 kilograms)

Size: 6 x 0.75 x 8.25 inches (15.24 x 1.9 x 20.95 centimeters)

Availability: New, used

Format: Kindle, paperback

Book Overview

The new edition of Cattle and Sheep Medicine: Self-Assessment Color Review book comprises over 250 new clinical examples split equally between cattle and sheep. The examples come as integrated questions, images, and thorough justifications for the answers and appear randomly to mirror real-world practice.

For all cases, it includes new photos and multiple-choice questions for review.

In a problem-based style, this second edition discusses significant clinical traits of various prevalent ruminant diseases seen in first-opinion practice. The book also lists other illnesses not covered in the earlier edition.

Even though prevalent diseases are still depictable, there is a modification of circumstances to resemble general practice more closely. This is because the disease does not always present with the same clinical characteristics.

The author uses the diagnosis and treatment plans presented for the past 38 years in commercial large animal practice. They don’t need specialized facilities or equipment, but they understand the time and cost constraints that frequently exist.
